Toronto – Day 5

10:05 pm SCI Recovery

Today Suzanne and I decided to try breakfast at Clafouti, which was just downstairs from my brother’s apartment. we had a decadently European breakfast:

There was something of a hint of 1920′s Paris in the air…

We met Esther for lunch at a sushi restaurant… (we always seem to be eating!)

And then went to an outdoor neighbourhood market. Before going back to the apartment for a little rest, we stopped by Dutch Dreams again, for some take out.

We decided to go out to a restaurant near my brother’s home, and I wanted to walk there. Esther filmed me from the apartment to the restaurant — about 7 minutes of me walking with my canes:

Once we got there, I rewarded myself with a yummy pizza…

… and a triumphant smile.

And of course, I then walked back as well. It was a good workout. Tomorrow we return home.

    How absolutely inspiring!

As you know, Rawdon is a beautiful place for walking … let me know when I should plug in the kettle!

    Best,

The happiest day for me will be
when I will see you, Julian
hopping along with your fancy feet
with no canes to support you
    all the way!
    Tapping away like that
    incredible character in Happy Feet,
never missing a beat, as they say.

Since, the way you are going
    I can truly say,
That day will not be so far away!
Yea, all this stuff is fine and dandy
But you will really see the best
in yourself and the world around you
when you won’t even need legs and
feet cause you will have wings,
    you see!

    So Keep on dancing,
    On this earthly plane
Until you take our breath away
with some even more incredible feats
with your fancy moves and special views of you, like in this movie.

Julian Julian!! What you Canadians will do for some good pizza. What a great motivator. It works for me.

To echo Nancy’s comments: we all admire your bravery and willpower as you beat this SCI demon back into its box.

We missed you greatly at Greenacre this year. Maybe it’s time to plan a trip to Maine for next summer. Maybe we could do something fun for the talent show.

    Love and hugs,
    Barb and Bob Harris

I don’t know about bells and whistles, since we are still working on getting the nuts and bolts “installed”.

We’re looking forward to the ABS Annual meeting, too. I’m sure we will run into each other. I’m easy to spot — I’m the guy in the Tilley’s with a walker or canes.

I watched the whle video of you walking — still marvelling at your will-power and perseverance! Both of you!
It was so wonderful to see your faces again.
And to think that you were at Tilley’s — only a few blocks from my home! Sorry I missed you!
But glad that you had a good visit– to our disgraceful-looking city and were able to take in such delightful sights (McMichael Gallery, AGO, theatre, restaurants…!)
What’s happening work-wise? You mentioned that you are now back at work full-time. After all you went through with them, I’m so happy to hear that. Did they finally agree to install all the bells and whistles for you?

I’m off next week to ABS, and hope to see you there!
    Love
    Nancy
