The journey begins…
July 12, 2006 5:22 pm SCI Recovery… in April I suffered a spinal cord injury which left me paralysed from the chest on down. For those of you who know your anatomy, the lesion happened between C6 and C7 (vertebrae in the lower neck). As a result I am considered a quadraplegic, since although I can use my hands, they are affected and are quite weak. My legs and lower body are paralyzed. …. I am currently undergoing physical rehabilitation, the goal of which is to enable me to use the parts of my body that do work (chiefly the arms) to get around in a wheelchair, and do all the normal everyday things that I used to do without thinking, such as opening containers, getting dressed, moving around the city, and so on. I finally am getting enough endurance to be able to work on the computer a bit, as you can see. … I am working hard in physiotherapy and occupational therapy to develop the strength and abilities to live a normal life.
